Gaujiena New Castle - a historical pearl available for purchase
In Vidzeme, in a picturesque location on the steep banks of the Gauja River, lies one of Latvia's most valuable, but currently unused, manor castles - Gaujienas Jauna pils. This late classicist-style building, built of dolomite stone and brickwork, is an architectural monument of national importance with a history of more than two hundred years.
The construction of the castle began after 1818, when the manor was purchased by the von Wulff family, and the construction of the main building was completed in 1827, creating rooms that served the needs of the baron's family. In 1850, the building underwent a significant reconstruction - symmetrical side risalits were added to it, as well as the luxurious main portico with six Ionic columns, which decorate the entrance facade along the entire height of the building. The pediment is decorated with a relief decoration with the baron's coat of arms in the center, while the staircase of the front door is guarded by two sculptures of lying lions - a detail that gives the castle its majesty. On the opposite side, on the facade facing the park, a terrace with double-sided granite stairs has been preserved, while the facade is complemented by balconies with luxurious cast-iron railings.
From 1922 to 2020, the castle housed a school named after Ojārs Vācietis, but due to the deteriorating technical condition of the building, the educational institution was moved to another building. Since then, the castle has been empty and unused, so a decision has been made to expropriate the building, seeking an investor who would be able to restore it and breathe new life into it.
The starting price of the palace complex is 141,000 euros.
